The 22nd Amendment was passed after Franklin D. Roosevelt’s unprecedented four terms, enshrining the principle that no one should hold executive power indefinitely. It’s one of the clearest constitutional protections we have against authoritarianism.

Joking about ignoring it—or testing legal theories to bypass it—isn’t funny. It’s dangerous.

We are calling on Members of Congress and state leaders to publicly reaffirm their support for the 22nd Amendment and stop any attempts of Trump to weaken or reinterpret presidential term limits. 

This isn’t about partisanship. It’s about the rule of law, peaceful transitions of power, and honoring the democratic values that define this country.

America doesn’t need a third-term president. It needs elected leaders who respect the Constitution.
