As concerned members of our community, we are expressing our strong opposition to the pending permit application submitted by 705 Limmerloop JV LLC for the proposed Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) Permit No. WQ0016260001 (EPA I.D. No. TX0143847). This permit seeks to authorize the discharge of treated wastewater at a volume not to exceed a daily average flow of 50,000 gallons per day from a domestic wastewater treatment facility located approximately 650 feet northeast of the intersection of Etna Way and Limmer Loop (County Road 109), in Williamson County, Texas 78634.
The location of this proposed wastewater plant is deeply troubling, as it is directly in front of Veteran’s Hill Elementary School, located in Hutto ISD, and surrounded by thousands of homes. Such a facility in close proximity to our school and residential areas poses significant health risks to our community, especially to our children who are the most vulnerable.
One of the major concerns associated with wastewater plants is the noxious smell they emit. The unpleasant odor generated by the plant can permeate the air, making it difficult for children to concentrate in their classrooms and causing discomfort for residents in their homes. Moreover, the release of treated wastewater into nearby water bodies raises concerns about the toxicity of the runoff. The presence of harmful contaminants in the water can have detrimental effects on aquatic ecosystems and potentially impact the health of those who come into contact with or consume the water downstream.
The long-term health implications of exposure to these toxins cannot be overlooked.
Exposure to wastewater runoff poses significant health concerns for individuals living in close proximity to a wastewater plant. The discharge of treated wastewater into nearby water bodies, as proposed in the pending permit, introduces a range of harmful contaminants into the environment. These pollutants can include heavy metals, pathogens, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and chemicals commonly found in household products. When individuals come into contact with or consume water contaminated by these substances, they face a heightened risk of health problems. Prolonged exposure to wastewater runoff can lead to respiratory issues such as asthma and bronchitis, skin irritations like rashes and dermatitis, gastrointestinal disorders, and even chronic diseases such as kidney and liver damage. Furthermore, the potential for bacterial or viral infections increases, jeopardizing the well-being of the community, particularly vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. It is essential to prioritize the health and safety of our community by opposing the permit and preventing the potential negative health impacts associated with wastewater runoff.
Additionally, the presence of this wastewater plant in our community will inevitably have negative economic consequences. The proximity of such a facility can cause property values to decline, making it more difficult for residents to sell their homes and negatively impacting the overall economic vitality of our community. The potential loss of value and quality of life for homeowners is a serious concern that needs to be addressed.
In light of these significant health risks, environmental concerns, and potential economic repercussions, we, the undersigned members of the community, urge you to reject the pending permit application by 705 Limmerloop JV LLC. We believe that the construction and operation of a wastewater plant in such a sensitive location poses an unacceptable threat to the well-being of our community.
We kindly request that the following entities carefully consider the negative impacts this wastewater plant would have on the health of our residents, particularly our children, the potential harm to our environment, and the economic implications for our community. We implore the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Williamson County by denying permit application #WQ0016260001. We urge the cities of Round Rock and Hutto to provide a suitable alternative as every other development in this area has received. We ask that Commissioner Boles fight for the thousands of residents who will be grossly affected by this wastewater plant if approved. We deserve to have our quality of life preserved.
