I have organised a public meeting on Tuesday 5th December at 7pm in Wetherby Methodist Church. Leeds City Council have agreed to send representatives to the meeting to explain their proposals and hear first hand how they would affect people.
Thank you to the thousands who have now signed the petition. There is still more we can do. Behind every signature is a story of how these charges would negatively impact people, businesses and the wider community. I was accused by some of scaremongering when I first revealed the plans, but the council has now formally published it’s proposal. My fear is that this will be just the start. Once the principal of free parking is broken, it seems inevitable that the council will keep coming back for more.
The proposed charge for all day parking would amount to a jobs tax of £828 a year for anyone that works and needs to park in town. Combined with a proposed cashless system which would be inaccessible and off putting to many people. I believe these proposals would be hugely damaging to the town.

- Please come to the public meeting. A high attendance will demonstrate to the council how big an impact these proposals would have.
- Please respond to the councils formal consultation. The numbers on the petition will carry significant weight but this will be so much more powerful if the same number of people make their views known directly to the council. These consultations can often be a formality but it will help me enormously, as I lobby the council to think again, if thousands have also responded to the consultation.
