Say NO to parking charges in Kirklees

The Issue

Petition for objections to the introduction and increase of parking charges across Kirklees!

Labour-run Kirklees Council plan to introduce parking charges in the district’s 57 currently free car parks.

Charges will also be introduced in Batley, Birstall, Cleckheaton, Heckmondwike, Mirfield and Ravensthorpe

Under the proposals the charges will generally be 80p per hour in villages including Honley, Meltham, Lindley, Almondbury, Golcar, Kirkburton, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Shepley, Skelmanthorpe, Emley, Marsh, Milnsbridge, Denby Dale, Netherton, New Mill and Scissett.

The council will also increase car park charges in Huddersfield, Holmfirth and Dewsbury town centres from Monday April 29

There is a RISK to many residents who will be impacted as commuters and visitors will potentially try to park on unrestricted residential streets.

These decisions will be hugely DAMAGING to all towns and the surrounding villages within Kirklees and will RISK visitors from avoid using local independent businesses at a time when we need to support them.

While the Labour-led Kirklees Council state:

  • “it is intended that the income generated will enable car parks to be improved”
  • “will ensure that the council’s parking assets are used appropriately and effectively to facilitate the vitality and viability of towns and villages across the district and will generate revenue to reinvest in relevant council services”

we believe this is a complete sham and they have effectively taken the decision. They simply see residents, commuters and visitors as a cash cow as the council would like to charge us for spaces that we have already paid for through our taxation and there are no guarantees that the revenue will be reinvested as their current track record has led to mis-management of our taxes resulting in closures of local services.

"Sign the petition" to tell the Labour-led Kirklees Council that we REJECT this proposal in its entirety and do NOT want introduction to parking charges in the district’s 57 free car parks and REJECT to any parking charges to increase across ALL of Kirklees!
