Say NO to Minimalism: Preserve the Interior Design of the Amesbury Stop & Shop

The Issue

Hello,

My name is Jaclyn Zinck. I was recently hired as a new employee at the Stop & Shop in Amesbury Massachusetts. This particular location happens to be one of the few remaining Stop & Shops that hasn't yet been updated. The updated interior, like many, is part of the ongoing epidemic of corporate minimalism, and its effects are seen everywhere. The McDonald's in Newburyport, which once sported a unique New England cottage-style interior sadly fell victim to the greyscale scourge, and according to my manager, the spirit and individuality of our location is soon to be on the chopping block as well. I strongly oppose corporate minimalism for many reasons, it desecrates individuality, it enforces conformity, promotes gentrification, and, most of all, it sucks the soul out of interior design.

I am personally very fond of the old fashion wall tiling, stylized signs and warm atmosphere. I am aware that this is a personal preference, and that even some of my coworkers may disagree, but I am on a crusade to protect this precious piece of interior design from the contagious disease that is corporate minimalism. I personally would like to make the Amesbury location a time capsule of sorts, for the old signs and decor. Other companies may have a few or so stores spared from interior updates for the sake of nostalgia or preservation, and I think that the Amesbury Stop & Shop location is the perfect candidate for such treatment. I am well aware that such choices are made by the corporation, and not by individual stores, which is why this petition will be aimed directly at Ahold Delhaize, Stop & Shop's parent company. If this petition gains enough signatures, which I believe it will, then I would love for our Amesbury location to be spared from the interior update. I would obviously be more than fine with non-cosmetic repairs, such as fixing tiling, replacing ceiling tiles or lights, but any assault on the artistic and visual integrity of our store is strictly against my moral and personal values.

If Ahold Delhaize truly values their customers and associates, then they would pay attention to the public opinion on such design upgrades. If enough people sign this petition, then it would be my hope that it would prove that no matter how insignificant the interior design of a store may seem, it ultimately does has a huge impact on customers and employees.

Please sign this petition today if you too want to save a precious piece of supermarket history from the plague of minimalism.
