I've received a bunch of calls, texts and emails asking if I'd left the Facebook group. Yes, I did leave. On October 23, I made the difficult decision to step away. Not only was it consuming my every waking moment, it was also affecting my mental health and therefore my physical health.
Nobody is being paid for the umpteen hours invested in this. I'm a warrior, but not a stupid one. The final straw was when someone expressed doubt; that perhaps I was some secret operative of OREA'S. I volunteered hundreds of hours to this movement only for someone to question my integrity.
Although I've chosen to step away, I still support the fight.
To that end, I'd like to make a few things abundantly clear.
1. The Facebook group was supposed to be focused on fighting the mandatory aspect of the ORWP. The funds that have been collected are to fight mandatory. Not for companies to supply email lists for use to contact and inform more agents, not for gas costs or parking or lunch or having flyers made for the Town hall. And certainly not to fight TRREB. The money is earmarked for legal costs pertaining to this challenge. Nothing else. The admin of the FB group refused to sign a retainer with the lawyer, which essentially prohibits them from interacting in any way with the legal team because they do not have privilege. They know this and yet they have consistently berated those who do have privilege for not disclosing strategy. 2. There is ONE person handling all of the coordinating of this fight now. Her name is Liz Polak and she is a beast. She lives eats and breathes this movement! The most organized and hard working person in this group the past 5 months. She is the driving force and the only person keeping this fight alive. 3. MORE MONEY HAS TO BE RAISED. I don't know if people get it or not. There CANNOT be an injunction put in place if the money is not there to potentially pay costs and/or fines if the case is lost. An injunction isn't just a piece of paper, an order from the court putting a halt on this permanently because we disagree with the orwp. An injunction has to be proven. A court has to agree that there are grounds for putting the brakes on. Where do you think that information is going to come from? People/witnesses/experts need to give testimony. Whistle blowers have to be questioned. The wronged need to be coached and prepared to face challenges put forth by the other side. You can't just say "this is wrong, please stop it". There are legal protocols that have to be followed.#4. Stop asking about the legal standing. It's in motion. When information can be shared, it will be. Trust Liz. She's in charge. SHE has your back. Her focus is solely on removing the mandatory. Time is of the essence here and everyone's focus should be on the same thing.
