Hello neighbors!

I just wanted to say thank you for showing up last week to our Veterans Day event honoring the Civil War soldiers who served in the 20th and 26th regiments of the United States Colored Troops, and who are interred at Greenlawn Cemetery, land that is part of the site where the Town wants to build this massive industrial park.

Our very own Dr. Ronald Williams-Wells worked with Pinelawn Cemetery to organize this event. You can read about it in Newsday HERE and HERE

We are highlighting these soldiers, not only for their sacrifice for us, but also for the fact that up until last year, their burial site remained unmarked and not well-maintained. As part of the 110 acres that the Town of Babylon wants to hand over to developers of this massive industrial park -- the soldiers' burial site risks being swallowed up into the shadows of nine industrial buildings.

We are thankful that Pinelawn Cemeteries has now, after so many years of neglect, started to maintain the land where these soldiers are interred. Pinelawn also helped pay for the new markers that now adorn the soldiers' graves. We are appreciative of this effort and we hope that Pinelawn will continue to work with us to ensure this land remains sacred and well-maintained. Our goal to repackage this industrial park project into a conservation park project titled Freedom Park, stems from our desire to ensure these soldiers get the love, respect, and honor in death that they did not get in life.

Best,

Love
