COVID-19 Unemployment Update

Hi everyone,
I am thinking about you during these uncertain times and I want to ensure that you recieve the necessary information to assist you with some of the gridlock that you may be facing as I have been frustrated with completing the Texas Workforce Commission Unemployment process. Below is updated information on Unemployment Benefits that you may find helpful.
Individuals who have lost their job or wages due to the COVID-19 pandemic may apply for unemployment benefits by calling the Texas Workforce Commission's Unemployment Benefit Claim Self-Service at 800-939-6631, 866-274-1722 or by applying online at ui.texasworkforce.org.
Due to the unusual high volume of Texans filing unemployment claims, TWC is in the process of expanding the number of call centers to meet the need. Individuals are requested to stagger their calls and access to the online portal based on the applicant's area code. Following are the recommended call and access times:
Recommend Call and Access Times by Applicants Area Code:
Area Codes begining with
(9) Mon - Wed - Fri. 8AM - Noon
(3,4,5,6) Mon - Wed- Fri 1PM - 5PM.
(7,8) Tues - Thurs- Sat 8AM - Noon
(2) Tues - Thurs - Sat. 1PM - 5PM
Things to Know:
If you are selfemployed, a contract worker or previously worked in a position that did not report wages, you may qualify for unemployment benefits.
You will not be penalized for a delay due to call or user volume. Claims for individuals affected by COVID-19 are eligible to be backdated.
If you recently exhausted benefits, no action is needed from you. TWC will determine if you qualify and notify you by mail or email of your eligibility.
If you applied for unemployment benefits but lacked the necessary wages to qualify, TWC will determine if you qualify under the new stimulus bill and notify you by mail or email of your eligibility.
