HB 2847 authored by Craig Goldman ( who deregulated  Braiding in 2015, HB 2717) and Sponsored by Senator Kelly Hancock, includes the lowering of Cosmetology hours from 1500 to 1000 hours and has slithered its way to the Senate and we must stop it.  WE MUST ACT TODAY!  Calls to all Senate offices and a call to your state representative should be made today.   The team of lobbyists that have been working on our behalf have stated that we should take the following steps:

  • Ask to speak to the staff member who handles constituent services and/or the staff member who oversees occupational licensing and regulatory legislation.
  • Explain that you are calling about HB 2847 by Representative Craig Goldman. The bill is now in the Senate.
Sen. Kelly Hancock is the Senate sponsor.
A Charles Schwertner amendment that reduces cosmetology licensing requirements from 1500 hours to 1000 hours was added to the bill in committee.
The bill has been recommended for the Senate Local and Consent Calendar and Cosmetologists and other interested parties have not had an opportunity to speak about this amendment at any time this session.
  • The training is complex and there has been no study or analysis about the impact of a 1/3 reduction in training.
Ask what can be done about this.
  • Can your representative express your concerns to Rep. Goldman?
  • Can your senator express your concerns to Sen. Campbell and Sen. Hancock?
