An Immediate Call To Action!
Dear Supporter,
This update is not only a reminder to remain focus by continuing to watch HB 1705 but a call to action to rise up against HB 2444, SB 1507, and HB 2843 which is now pending in the Higher Education Committee. These Bill's are pathways to the disruption of the Texas Barber and Cosmetology industry and we must not take them lightly.
On Monday, Farouk Shami of Farouk Systems, hosted a meeting with Barber and Cosmetology school icons, Armstrong MCCall store owners, the Lobbyist that is aiding us in this fight, and myself to discuss ways to kill these Bill's. We owe it to ourselves, the industry, and to the general public to stand firm on education.
Contact was made to Representative Turner and Representative Metcalf's offices on Monday and no one could answer any questions on HB 2843 or why the Representatives felt the need to author this bill. The second call was made on Tuesday due to no returned call from Representative Turner's office as promised, and the answers remained the same with another return phone call promise.
Representative Metcalf's office stated for the record that "the office knew nothing nor could answer any questions about HB 2843 and the office depended on Representative Turner's office to answer all questions".
Representative Walle's office initial response was referring the call back to representative Turner's office but later was changed to "high school students only are required 1000 hours and so the requirements for non public schools to do a haircut should be lowered to make it easier to join the work force". Representative Turner's office called back with the same talking points.
