Keep toilet options open at Hobson’s Bay

Hobson’s Bay City Council is proposing to convert all public toilets to gender neutral, doing away with single sex facilities and denying residents choice, safety and comfort.

This misguided proposal must be stopped. 

Hobson’s Bay Local Government Area is a diverse, tolerant and multi-faith community. Some faith communities have specific concerns about mixed sex toilet facilities. These concerns should be respected, just as the safety and comfort of gender diverse locals should be respected. 

Hobson’s Bay should instead support an inclusive bathroom policy that allows people of all genders to access toilet facilities, while preserving single sex options. 

Providing the option of women’s, men’s, and gender neutral toilets will support inclusion while respecting the diversity of our community.
