Say No to Doubling Parking Charges in Milton Keynes!

The Issue

The Labour administration of Milton Keynes City Council is poised to impose steep increases on parking charges in central Milton Keynes, hitting residents and visitors with yet another financial burden.

  • The price of standard parking for the minimum stay of two hours will double from £1 to £2.
  • The price of premium parking for the minimum stay of 1 hour will go up to £2.50 from £2.00.
  • This decision will also impact E1 Employee permit holders. The daily E1 Permit charge rate will increase to £3 and the five-hour Permit charge will increase to £2.

This decision will be taken on Tuesday 26th November in a public Delegated Decision meeting. More details can be found here: Agenda for Delegated Decisions on Tuesday 26th November, 2024, 6.00 pm | Milton Keynes City Council - **** UPDATE: We have called this decision for further scrutiny and this will now take place on the 17th of December at 6.45pm in Council offices. This fight is far from over, and your participation can make all the difference. Here's what we need from you:

1. Share the Petition: The more signatures we gather, the stronger our message becomes. Please share the petition with friends, family, colleagues, and anyone else who cares about keeping our city vibrant, accessible, and fair for all.

2. Attend the Meeting: Your presence at the meeting will send a powerful message. Whether you're a resident, a business owner, or a shopper, your attendance will show the council just how deeply this decision affects our community. They can't ignore you when you are there.

3. Speak at the Meeting: I would like to encourage you to speak at the meeting and share how these parking hikes impact you. Please contact me directly at 07719035317. or on my email shazna.muzammil@milton-keynes.gov.uk and I’ll guide you through the process.

Last year was just the beginning. The Labour-Liberal Democrat-led Council already doubled the minimum stay requirements from one hour to two hours, which raised the minimum spend from 50p to £1. Now, they seek to double the cost of those two hours to an astonishing £2! This pattern of repeated financial strain on our community cannot continue.

Conservative Councillors believe it is unacceptable to expect residents and visitors of Milton Keynes to shoulder yet another increase—especially when many families are already struggling with the rising costs of living. Small businesses will be particularly hard hit as well; increased parking fees deter shoppers, making our city less attractive and jeopardising the livelihoods of local businesses.

Sign our petition today to stand united against these unfair parking charge increases. Let’s show the council that we demand reasonable parking fees that support our community, not undermine it.

We have just a few more days to get as many signatures as we can, so please do share it with friends, family and businesses so we can go to the meeting and speak up on behalf of you all.

Thank you ever so much.
