🚨Excellent News Alert🚨

New Caledonia made history.

On April 29, the Congress of New Caledonia voted in favour of a 50-year moratorium on deep-sea mining — one of the strongest and most forward-looking protections of ocean ecosystems in the world.

🌊 Covering 1.3 million km² of its exclusive economic zone, this law bans all exploration, prospecting, and extraction of deep-sea mineral resources, allowing only non-invasive scientific research.

🪸As home to nearly one-third of the planet’s remaining pristine coral reefs, New Caledonia is setting a bold precedent grounded in science, precaution, and intergenerational responsibility.

“Rather than giving in to the logic of immediate profit, New Caledonia can choose to be a pioneer in ocean protection.”
— Jeremie Katidjo Monnier, Member of the Government of New Caledonia

This decision stands in sharp contrast to the recent decree from the U.S. administration fast-tracking deep-sea mining in international waters. It’s a timely reminder: the deep ocean is not for sale.

👏🏽 A landmark moment for biodiversity, environmental sovereignty, and global ocean governance.

Let’s keep the momentum going! Keep sharing our petition. We will deliver this at the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in Nice, France
