Say No To Charter Change

Say No To Charter Change
The Issue
The impacted individuals and groups typically include citizens, local communities, minority groups, public servants, business owners, students and educators, and voters. Any changes to a charter can influence governance structures, services, rights, protections, and community dynamics, affecting how each group operates and interacts with their government.
We should vehemently oppose charter change for several reasons. Firstly, the staggering cost of 28 billion pesos, as estimated by NEDA, is exorbitant, especially when considering that such funds could be better allocated to pressing societal needs like education, health, housing, and public transportation, crucial areas that require urgent attention amid economic and health crises. Moreover, the process of appointing sectoral representatives for the Constitutional Convention (Con-Con) by the president and the House speaker, who are relatives, raises serious concerns about fairness and impartiality. This undermines the democratic foundation of the entire endeavor. Instead, we should advocate for more democratic means of selecting delegates and prioritize addressing the immediate needs of the Filipino people rather than pursuing a costly and potentially divisive charter change.
We need to take immediate action to prevent a charter change that threatens democratic principles and rights is crucial. Mobilizing efforts to advocate for transparency, accountability, and public participation in decision-making processes can help safeguard these values. It's important to engage in constructive dialogue, raise awareness, and support initiatives that promote inclusive governance and protect the rights of all Filipinos.
