Release Punjab 95 Uncut – Let Punjab Tell Its Truth

Cinema is a powerful tool for truth. It gives voice to the silenced, dignity to the forgotten, and healing to the wounded. Punjab 95, a film based on the life of human rights defender Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra, is one such story—a story that must be told in its entirety.

Sardar Jaswant Singh Khalra uncovered the extrajudicial killings and illegal cremation of thousands of innocent Sikhs during the dark days of Punjab’s insurgency in the 1990s. He spoke truth to power, and paid for it with his life. His courage was not just personal—it was a stand for justice, for human rights, and for the dignity of every life lost.

He fought for human rights while he was alive. And now, in a painful irony, he is still fighting for his rights—even in martyrdom. The right to have his story told truthfully, without distortion or censorship, is being denied. This is not just unjust—it’s a betrayal of everything he stood for.

What makes this censorship even more troubling is that this film is based on facts that are already in the public domain and have been acknowledged by the courts of law. If the truth has already been validated, why censor it now? What is being protected—truth or power?

💔 Punjab’s Pain Cannot Be Censored

For decades, Punjab has carried the weight of trauma, grief, and unanswered questions. The scars of state violence and disappearances still linger in the hearts of families who never saw justice. Punjab 95 is not just a film—it is a chance for truth to be acknowledged, for wounds to be seen, and for healing to begin.

But instead of allowing this truth to be shared, the film has been repeatedly censored and delayed. This is not just an attack on artistic freedom—it is an attempt to erase history under the guise of censorship.

✊ What We Demand
We call on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and all relevant authorities to:

  • Release Punjab 95 in its original, uncut form.
  • Respect the creative integrity of the filmmakers.
  • Uphold the right to free expression and historical truth.
  • Allow Punjab to tell its story—without edits, without fear.

📢 Why It Matters
Human rights are not negotiable. Truth is not optional. And healing cannot happen without acknowledgment. Punjab deserves to tell its story. Entire world deserves to hear it.

Let us not bury the past. Let us confront it—with honesty, courage, and compassion.
