Say NO to ANNEX!

The Issue

I am a rising senior, and I find the idea of being confined to a single small building on the school campus deeply troubling. The thought of being segregated from the rest of the school community, limited to only interacting with fellow seniors, is not how I envisioned my final year of high school. High school is supposed to prepare us for the future, a world where we interact with diverse groups of people, not just those in our immediate circle. Therefore limiting the interactions between seniors, underclassmen and staff, not only isolates the seniors but it also stymies our growth and fails to offer us the full experience of a unified school environment.

In our school, the proposal to geographically segregate seniors is not just inconvenient for students, it's impractical to teachers and staff as well. Teachers are forced to migrate between different campus buildings throughout the day, which wastes time and splits their focus. Our educators should have stable environments where they can focus on delivering quality education, rather than worrying about transit logistics.

There are schools in other districts that have implemented more inclusive policies, allowing seniors full access to the entire campus while also ensuring that teachers have designated classrooms for their subjects. Utilizing the Annex, as an establishment strictly dedicated for the new Dual Enrollment classes, not only allows for the college professors to have their own space to for stable learning environment that is different from a high school level course experience. These models have not only improved student camaraderie but have also enhanced teacher satisfaction and educational outcomes. We can learn from these successful examples and create a more cohesive educational space for everyone.

It's critical that students like myself and teachers don't face unnecessary challenges created by admin in pursuit to separate the 12 graders from the rest of the school. We need support from the administration to maintain open access to the entire school campus for both the main building and the annex building. Our right to a conducive learning environment should not be hindered by logistical constraints that can and should be addressed.

I urge school administrators and other officials to reconsider this segregation practice. Let's foster a more unified and inclusive school experience that benefits both students and teachers alike. If you believe in creating an equitable and engaging educational experience, please sign this petition to advocate for the integration of seniors with the entire school community. Your voice can make a difference.
