The Issue

Growing up in our neighborhood, Sunset Park has always been more than just a patch of grass; it’s a cherished piece of our community and an integral part of my childhood. For years, it has been the heart of our neighborhood where I, along with my friends, have spent countless hours playing football in that space .It’s a place where families gather, children laugh, and memories are crafted in every corner. To think that this beloved space is now threatened to be replaced by a parking lot is heartbreaking.

The green expanse of Sunset Park is one of the few natural retreats we have here. Our community already has adequate parking facilities, and the need for more should not come at the expense of our precious parkland. Transforming this park into another concrete lot not only diminishes our green spaces but also erodes the communal fabric of our neighborhood. Parks like Sunset Park are vital for mental and physical health, offering a sanctuary for relaxation, exercise, and social interactions.

Current proposals to tear apart our parkland in favor of added parking are misguided. We urge the village council to reconsider their plans and to explore alternative solutions that do not involve sacrificing our beloved green spaces. We propose investing in something that doesn't involve sacrificing what's left of your parks let's preserve our parks. Let's prioritize maintaining the natural beauty and existing community spaces that contribute so significantly to the quality of life here.

By signing this petition, you're helping preserve the sanctity and utility of Sunset Park for future generations to enjoy. Protecting our park is a stand for our community's values, wellbeing, and legacy. Let's work together to safeguard our neighborhood’s treasured green spaces.
