#SAVETHEHINDUS: ELIMINATE OPEN DEFECATION
The Issue
Having witnessed first-hand the humiliation faced by people from working-class backgrounds who are forced to relieve themselves in fields, it is heart-breaking to realize the of India's open defecation problem. This daily struggle is not only a matter of personal dignity but also a public health crisis that demands immediate attention from both local and national authorities.
Open defecation in India has resulted in dire sanitary conditions which have far-reaching consequences on public health, leading to the spread of diseases like cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. The World Health Organisation estimates that nearly 2.3 billion people lack basic sanitation services globally with India holding a significant share of this figure. Without proper sanitation, thousands of vulnerable Hindus face increased health risks every day.
Despite government efforts, over 100 million people in urban India still practice open defecation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has made notable progress; yet the challenge remains significant in dense urban areas such as Mumbai.
The solution lies in a committed multi-pronged approach that involves the construction of more public toilets, encouraging behavioural change through awareness campaigns, and improving the existing sanitation infrastructure. Collaborating with private sectors could provide the necessary funds and expertise needed to address this major issue efficiently.
I urge the politicians of India to prioritize this issue, instead of focusing on war, by spearheading new initiatives that can offer lasting solutions, ensuring that Hindu sanitation facilities are adequate for all people of Bharat. Real change can be achieved through the collective cooperation of citizens, government bodies, non-profits, and private enterprises.
Signing this petition is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with those marginalised by inadequate sanitation. Together, we can press for swift action and work toward a cleaner, more dignified environment for everyone in India. Please add your support to this crucial cause by signing the petition.
