We want Teen R.E.A.C.H and the Parent Mentor Program to be added back to the budget!
The Issue
"When something truly matters to you, don't let anything silence you"
Governor Rauner’s proposed budget is including budget cuts that provide funding for vital programs and services in many under resourced communities. Programs like Teen Reach and the Parent Mentor are at risk. These programs have had a profound impact on many communities throughout Illinois.
In this crucial time WE will not and cannot be silent. WE will not let this happen! Teen R.E.A.C.H is a program that gives many students across Illinois a place to go for support. Teen R.E.A.C.H. at Morrill Elementary does just that, supports students to be successful not just at school but life. A lot of students do not have access to the things that TR offers like sports, leadership classes, field trips, mentoring and so much more. Likewise the Parent Mentoring program has hundreds of parents in schools Like Morrill. The parent mentors provide tutoring for students, mentoring and develops parents to be leaders in their community. Through the Parent Mentor Program parents are able to give their time to be involved in their child’s school and are very much building community.
TR's budget is also connected to the funding of organizations like the South-West Organizing Project (SWOP). By the Governor cutting Teen R.E.A.C.H.’s budget and the Parent Mentor Program it will set off a chain reaction that is going to affect so many communities, especially communities of color.
Even with cutting the Parent Mentor Program and Teen R.E.A.C.H. it will not fix the Illinois budget crisis. What will taking our budget away change?! We feel that our communities are being targeted!!!
As young leaders we have been taught that “If we don't stand for something we will fall for anything! Stand with us and support us to get Teen R.E.A.C.H. and the Parent Mentor program back on the budget!
