#SaveDisney (Make Bob Iger retire as CEO of Disney.)
The Issue
Bob Iger is clearly past his prime as CEO of Disney, and he's spiraling the company out of control. While yes, he did have a few wins such as Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Inside Out 2, Percy Jackson, and debatably Elemental. But everything else in recent years under his leadership on almost every division has been a complete disaster. Most of Disney Plus' lineup is nothing more than mediocre Star Wars and Marvel spin-offs, the endless live action remakes feel like such cheap cash grabs that they make the Direct-to-Video/DVD sequels from the now extinct Disney Toon look necessary by comparison, the theme parks now feel like corporate cash grabs with many rides not feeling like they fit in with the park's theme, making Pixar do mostly sequels and spin-offs instead of actual original movies, and now his alleged pushing of AI as a way to underpay his animators, writers, and maybe even actors, even after a major Hollywood strike, is making Disney into more of a soulless corporation. But worst of all, the most recently released original animated film, Wish, has had a terrible box office opening for an animated movie, and mediocre reception from critics and audiences alike, when it was supposed to be a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Disney's founding.
However, hope isn't lost for the Walt Disney Company. It's clear that they need new leadership, and so, I am writing this petition to sort of, unofficially bring back the #SaveDisney campaign from the 2000s, which successfully made Michael Eisner resign as CEO, after his then failures to lead the company. And the same needs to be done here. So, if you're a shareholder for Disney, and one of the other executives, I call on to vote no on the re-election of Bob Iger whenever the next board meeting is. He cannot continue to serve as CEO, and he needs to retire permanently retire from the film industry as a whole. And should the company get new leadership, here's what they need to prioritize:
- Stop producing further live-action remakes of their classic animated movies (Unless they're already mostly finished or midway through production anyways.) to make way for more original films, and improve their Star Wars and Marvel IPs.
- Pay the animators, writers, producers, directors, actors, and many others higher wages for the work they've put into their movies, and don't use AI as a replacement for them.
- Only make sequels to the movies that absolutely need them, and focus more on original films for both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios.
- Produce only a few high quality TV shows, and not so many mediocre and/or terrible ones each year.
- Wait to release movies on Disney Plus until a month after their released on physical media, so it doesn't negative affect ticket sales.
- Keep the rides at all Disney theme parks with the theme of each park, and only put movie tie-in rides where they make sense, like nature themed franchises in Animal Kingdom, Sci-Fi themed franchises at Epcot, fastasy franchises at Magic Kingdom, etc.
- Do something more unique with your animated films, like what Sony did with the Spider-Verse franchise, and make the animation less of the same style used over and over in all of your movies.
These should be good suggestion to get the company back on track, and move in a new and exciting direction. Because doing the same old thing over and over again is just going to wear out the company, and it currently is, so it's clear that change needs to happen, and it needs to start with Bob Iger stepping down as CEO of Disney, and handing it down to someone new, who can push the company into a better and more exciting direction than the one it's currently going in. I don't want the Walt Disney Company to die, I just want to change for the better.
