Dear Friends of the Devonport Peninsula Trust,
It's the news none of us wanted to hear: that the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board has voted to withdraw its annual funding for the Devonport Peninsula Trust, and 'formally wind down' the decades-long partnership between the Board and the Trust.
We hoped the board would agree to work alongside the Trust to clearly outline the board's new requirements (which council staff at today's meeting admitted have not yet been defined), and give them a meaningful opportunity to deliver them.
But it was not to be.
The one small ray of good news is that the DTLB has agreed to reinstate $25,000 to enable the Trust to deliver some popular events over the coming months, before formally ending the Board/Trust relationship later this year.
Thank you to the 639 people who signed the petition, and to everyone who worked so hard to persuade the board to reconsider.
