Save your seat, and stop the heat. Change Iowa’s tint laws.
The Issue
Iowa currently allows you to tint the back rear windows of your car as dark as you want to, and the front can only be tinted to 70%. There are a lot of benefits to being able to tint your car and I think they are being hindered when being limited to only the rear half of the car. I personally have issues with the light coming in at the top of the windshield and it often causes me to have headaches and migraines. This light also combines with lights coming in from the front side windows as well, as when your focusing on the road in front of you the edges of your eyes are more sensitive to light and motion. This is something that is not able to be solved by sunglasses as they only protect directly in front of you and still allow light around the edges.
The added benefit of tint is privacy. A lot of people keep personal things in their car, and without being able to tint the front of their car you are open to people peering into your car and increasing the risk of potential break-ins. This can also further the protection that you have for your family, and other individuals, in you car by helping protect them from observers with ill intent.
Tint, especially ceramic tint, is better for time management and fuel economy. It is harder to find ceramic tint in higher VLT (Visual Light Transmission), the amount of light that it lets through, the higher the number the more light passes through. Lighter, or high VLT ceramic tint will also be harder to notice and will make it harder for people to know if it was even installed because it will be harder to perceive. When ceramic tint is put on, and darker non ceramic tint but to a lesser degree, it prevents a lot of heat from getting into the vehicle. This can passively cool the car and keep its inside temperature lower, which will translate into not having to warm the car up as long to get the AC to cool the car, saving them time. It will also make it to where people don’t have to run their AC as much in general. This will further improve their cars fuel economy, saving them money as well as being better for the environment and lowering everyone’s carbon footprint.
Tint is not for everyone, and if people do have visual issues they shouldn’t tint their vehicle. Making darker tint legal isn’t requiring everyone to get tint, it is just opening it up as a possibility for the individual.
I would like to purpose an allowance for up to 20% tint to be able to be applied onto the front 2 windows.
