Dear Signers,
I know that some of the news coming out of West Virginia University today is heartbreaking. I share in your sense of heartbreak and loss. Some of the programs that the academic transformation team has recommended cutting are vital programs that should be offered at any and every university.
Here is where we are in terms of the appeals process with regard to creative writing. The appeals hearing is tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30th. The Department will not know the results of the appeal for several days.
Ahead of the appeal, if you want to reach out to others you know who understand the importance of offering a graduate MFA program in creative writing and ask them to sign the petition or contact the university, please do so. This could help.
WVU's MFA program is a popular, prestigious program that continues to attract applicants from around the country. Those applicants go on to become graduates who honor the university with their success as writers, editors, and teachers.
We appreciate all you have done and will do to support the MFA program at WVU.
In solidarity,
Lori D'Angelo, WVU MFA grad, 2009
