The Issue

Worle Library in North Somerset is more than just a building filled with books; it is a vital community hub that plays a crucial role in the cultural, educational, and social life of our area. Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, there is a proposal to close this invaluable facility — a decision that would have a detrimental impact on our community, particularly children, the elderly, and those who lack digital access at home.

Libraries provide an essential service by offering free resources that aid learning and literacy. Worle Library is a lifeline for many, offering access to books, the internet, and a range of programs that promote lifelong learning and community engagement. Closing this library will mean the loss of a safe and welcoming environment where individuals can gather, learn, and grow.

Many local schools, in Particular Mendip Green Primary School use Worle Library and the impact of the closure on local education would be profound.

Worle Library is a place of social interaction, combating loneliness and fostering a sense of belonging. The building hosts various activities and gatherings, predominantly used as the Children's Centre. Parent and family groups are vital for mental and emotional well-being. The loss of such a community centre could exacerbate isolation among our parents and children.

Please fill in the consultation for the libraries also! The full proposal and options for change are available to read! Please have your say!

Closing Worle Library would be a step backwards in our community's growth and development. We urge North Somerset Council to explore alternative solutions to budget challenges, which does not involve closing a vital community resource. Whether it's a community-led initiative, seeking alternative funding streams, or re-evaluating existing allocations, there must be a way to keep Worle Library open and thriving.

We need your help to keep Worle Library's doors open. Please sign this petition to ensure that Worle Library remains a cornerstone of our community.

PLEASE DO NOT DONATE ANY MONIES, THIS GOES DIRECTLY TO CHANGE.ORG AND NOT TO THE LIBRARY ITSELF.
