Is Paul Farmer CEO of AGE UK running a charity that respects donors wishes or is he a commercial landlord indulging in some property speculation?
That is the question people are beginning to ask themselves….
Ask the residents of Woodcot and they would tell you that Woodcot is their home - not a house of multiple occupancy which is what Age Uk have reduced it to. Those residents were promised that they could stay there.
For fifty years, thanks to Miss Jennings generosity, Woodcot has been home - to Salcombe’s elderly. It has hosted plays, parties, open days visits and provided a warm, safe and restful home for the elders who actually live under the roof.
It is a community, in and of itself.
To Age Uk though it seems Woodcot is just an asset. One that fell into their laps. For them to capitalise on.
Well the people of Salcombe think otherwise AGE UK.
Nearly 3000 people have signed to say that they want Age Uk to honour Miss Jennings covenant and protect homes for older people - not to cash in on her legacy.
Legacy gifts build trust.
The selling of Woodcot breaks that trust. Age UK: Do the right thing.
Woodcot belongs to the community it was given to serve - not the Open Market.
