When the Sunday Telegraph first broke the story that Age UK were euphemistically ‘exploring’ selling Woodcot. It was immediately followed up with a flurry of national media reports- all concerned about the plight of the elderly residents who still have the threat of homelessness hanging over their heads.
Such is the interest in this case and in all things Salcombe the press do always love a story about Salcombe. Age UK take note.
This story is no different. Hundreds of online comments from across the internet flooded Salcombe Town Council who did their best to keep everyone updated. Since then things have calmed down a bit… for a while.
However. Not so The Beeb.
The BBC Spotlight team, after several false starts and altered dates, finally filmed an interview with the residents and a campaigner at the beginning of August- some three weeks after the main event- so..hardly hot off the press… but that’s the way they operate these days apparently… yet they still haven’t broadcast it?
Why can this be? What possible reason could there be for not broadcasting an interview?
Given that the BBC is funded by the license payer it seems a waste of resources to film a news item but not broadcast it.
All very disappointing.
Meanwhile back at Woodcot, the residents are still stuck in limbo - the uncertainty and insecurity is very hard on them all.
Age UK need to come clean and tell them what they have in store. One thing is for sure they can’t rely on an investigative journalist exposing the truth anytime soon…
There’s lots going on behind the scenes folks. So expect another flurry of media interest soon. Maybe not from the BBC tho…
Until then, please keep signing, sharing, writing to your councillor or MP - to express your feelings about what Age UK are doing.
2,253 signatures. That’s a lot. Let’s hope Age UK are listening.
Thankyou. Once again. Thankyou.
