Literally thousands of people are commenting on Age UK’s behaviour over Woodcot. On forums, online newspaper comments and through good old fashioned word of mouth, the news is spreading. People are united by a sense of injustice: for Miss Jennings who gave her beautiful home for the good of others; for the elderly residents of Woodcot who have the anxiety of homelessness hanging over their heads every day; for the town of Salcombe that is being treated with utter contempt by Age UK. Again and again, people are ignored by those with the power to do the right thing- but don’t.
There is an injustice about a powerful national body using the law to suit their own interests whilst at the same time dismantling a much loved local institution. All in the name of charity.
I urge you to read all the comments on here, but especially the one of the from Janet, 73 from Eltham in Victoria- that is Victoria in Australia. Such is the reach of the internet that this petition is being spread across the world. Janet who was born in Kent writes movingly of her local community hospital in Melbourne where she had her children, which was lost despite much local opposition. (Remember Dartmouth hospital folks?)
Janet identifies with the feelings that people in Salcombe are feeling right now about what Age UK are doing with their beloved town and its beloved Woodcot.
Enough already. nearly 1700 people have signed up to say No. Age UK. Woodcot was given to you. Now you give it to another charity. Do the right thing.
Janet thankyou. Everyone who has signed and shared and cared. Thankyou.
