The Lidl store in wolverton sites on ground contaminated with asbestos. IN February 2016 a desk study Report was done by Atkins that proved asbestos is present on the whole of the Railways site including the land which the new Lidl store stands on.
At the planning hear the report was received by the MIlton Keynes Environmental Health dept' at MKC and they was happy with the report and said another detailed report needs to be done and approved by the Environmental health dept before any work can go ahead on site.
Notes found on the public access page on the councils website show they the DCC noted the comment by said they don't to act upon it and work on clearing the site started. During breaking the concrete and ripping out rails a dust cloud formed and moved over the site into the town no attempts where made by modwens contractors to dampen the dust down. Whilst taking photo's of the site works I got dust in my eye and none of the contractor where wearing any PPE so they were breathing in the dust.
The site of the lidl store used to be home to the body shop and finishers shop later in the 1980's it was home to the stores and the paint shops and the high volt test bay.
The group testing report also showed sign of other contamination on the site link to the use of the types of paint and paint stripers used at the time. No one has done any ground cleaning or had the asbestos removed this is a case of gross misconduct as well as a grave error
