It is wonderful to see how many of us care greatly for our beautiful Kangaroos and all our wildlife! It is essential we continue to support them and be their voices.
Why are our wildlife being put at serious risk at Western Sydney University (WSU) Werrington?
The answer is that WSU, is selling out not only our wildlife but the people of Penrith and surrounding areas. They, in partnership with Stockland developers, are going to develop most of the site. Just another development we may think? But there is a really important difference. This land was granted to the University back in the 1980’s by the NSW government, specifically for a University, to benefit our children and future generations! Plus millions of dollars from both State and Federal governments have been poured into the buildings and infrastructure.
Now WSU’s power that be (who are they?) have decided to ‘cash in’ on this Public land that it appears has cost them nothing! Land meant for us, the Public. Land meant to enable our young people and future generations for hundreds of years to come to have an opportunity to attend a local University. Does this sound fair to you? Or more of a great injustice?
Our children and future generations, of both our families and our wildlife, are the ones being ripped off. Denied fairness and justice and what our earlier generations over decades fought tirelessly to achieve – a centrally located, diverse university in Western Sydney to serve our local people and areas like the Blue Mountains, Lithgow and surrounding areas.
WSU is retaining only the campus in Kingswood, which is smaller and whose courses are limited. WSU now have 3 international campuses in India, Vietnam and Indonesia.
Penrith City Council is not responsible for the rezoning of the site to enable the proposed mixed use development to occur. The NSW state government is responsible for the rezoning.
Penrith Council has a General Meeting tomorrow night, Monday 24th August, 2026, 7pm. The proposed rezoning and development will be discussed there.
We urge you to attend, show by your presence your objection to Public land being used as a development site with WSU expected to reap enormous amounts of dollars from the development. Advocate for our wildlife!
