Hello Waterford Oaks BMX Track Supports!
Your support has been overwhelming and inspiring- thank you.
Here is an update from Oakland County Park Facebook page:
"Thank you for your interest in the future of Waterford Oaks BMX track. There is a lot of information being circulated – some accurate, some not so much – and we’re happy to share what we know.
A few days ago, we posted something on Facebook soliciting input regarding the creation of a “grand attraction” that would replace Waterford Oaks Wave Pool, which is just too far gone to be repaired. That engagement opportunity is just for the grand attraction. Waterford Oaks is a whole park with tons of amenities, and plans to that end are being discussed on another project page.
There are currently no plans to remove Waterford Oaks BMX track or relocate it. We’re in what’s called the “ideation” phase of the planning process, which is when our leadership works with our talented planning and design teams, along with top consultants to determine what is possible given the space, funding, community need and support, operational sustainability, etc. Zones are meant to illustrate concepts for park spaces and how they could interact with each other. They are not set plans.
Nothing has been decided, and we’re just collecting information about ideas.
What we know is this: Waterford Oaks BMX will have a home in our park system. We want to celebrate and build upon the track’s pioneering 50-year history. We recognize that the physical location of the track is meaningful, and that sweat equity that has been put in by dedicated users is substantial. All of this will be considered as we move forward on the transformation of the park.
Community input is vital to our planning efforts, and passion like that of the Waterford Oaks BMX community is welcome and encouraged! That’s why we recently launched our Co-Creation Lab, an online tool to gather robust public input on projects across our park system. You can share your own ideas, upvote other ideas you like, review planning documents and data collected to date, get updates on projects of interest and so much more. Please be sure to sign up for the Co-Creation Lab, and share the link with your friends (link in comments).
Thank you for your help to spread this most up-to-date information and participate in the shaping of this space. (https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DREL5Vw4k/)
