Save Warzone: Bring Back the Standalone Experience We Loved!
The Issue
Petition to Reclaim Warzone's Original Identity.
We, the undersigned players of Call of Duty: Warzone, wish to express our significant dissatisfaction with the recent incorporation of Black Ops 6 content. These modifications have drastically changed the unique character of Warzone, making it resemble an extension of Black Ops 6 rather than the independent game we have cherished and supported.
We respectfully call upon Activision and the Call of Duty development team to consider the following issues and work towards restoring Warzone to its original concept:
1. Warzone's Unique Identity is Compromised.
The integration of Black Ops 6 content has altered Warzone, erasing its distinctive identity and infusing it with elements from another title. Warzone was once celebrated as a unique, standalone experience, but it now feels like a completely different game—one that many players did not opt to purchase or engage with.
2. Operator Customization Visibility Challenges.
The pre-game lobby no longer allows players to fully appreciate their operator customizations. Previously, operators remained stationary, providing players the opportunity to admire their designs. The current constant movement diminishes the ability to enjoy character customization, negatively affecting the personalization experience.
3. Overwhelmed Warzone Store.
The store has become inundated with Black Ops 6 content, complicating the process for players seeking Warzone-specific items. This cluttered interface has transformed what was once an intuitive experience into a frustrating one, overshadowing Warzone's original operators and cosmetics.
4. Firing Range Functionality Decline.
The firing range has lost its effectiveness as a training resource. Previously, moving targets allowed players to replicate real in-game scenarios and enhance tracking skills. With the recent changes, targets are now static, rendering aim training significantly less effective and disconnecting it from the dynamic gameplay that Warzone demands.
5. Discontent with Level Resets.
The level reset introduced with Black Ops 6 Season 1 has alienated dedicated Warzone players who have invested considerable time in their progression.
6. The Diminished Identity of Warzone.
The integration of content has diluted the unique attributes that originally set Warzone apart. Players who were drawn to Warzone for its singular free-to-play model now find themselves navigating a hybrid game that strays from the initial concept. Content from Black Ops 6 should be reserved for its own franchise, enabling Warzone to flourish as an independent experience.
7. Absence of Player Autonomy.
The mandatory incorporation of Black Ops 6 content has removed players' ability to experience Warzone as an independent game. Those who have dedicated time and resources to Warzone are now required to engage with a merged environment that they did not request, diminishing their power as consumers. A distinct, standalone version of Warzone would enable both casual and committed players to revisit the experience they once cherished.
8. Ineffective User Interface and Navigation.
The revamped user interface is awkward and lacks intuitiveness, resulting in player frustration due to overly complicated navigation. Actions that were once straightforward, such as initiating a match or adjusting loadouts, now involve traversing through extra layers of menus aimed at promoting Black Ops 6. This change undermines the quick-paced experience that Warzone players anticipate and appreciate.
9. Storage Overload.
The recent update demands a significant amount of storage, compelling numerous players to remove other games or applications to make room. For individuals who do not engage with Black Ops 6, this requirement appears excessive and unwarranted, particularly for a game promoted as free-to-play.
10. Overlooking the Community.
The recent changes indicate a lack of consideration for the feedback and concerns expressed by the Warzone community. Players have repeatedly emphasized their wish for Warzone to maintain its unique identity and accessibility, yet these updates seem to favor business objectives over the satisfaction of the player base.
11. Overhauling Instead of Refining the Game Engine.
Players have expressed frustration with the decision to overhaul Warzone rather than build upon its existing engine. As one player pointed out:
“They should have just improved Sledgehammer’s game engine that was developed—it was headed in the right direction. Just needed some improvements, not a complete overhaul.”
The Sledgehammer engine provided a solid framework for Warzone’s gameplay, offering smooth mechanics and immersive experiences. Refinements such as improving visuals, addressing bugs, and enhancing mechanics would have allowed the game to evolve without alienating its player base. Instead, the drastic changes have disrupted the experience that players grew to love.
Our Appeal
We urge Activision and the development team to:
1. Eliminate Black Ops 6 content from Warzone to maintain its distinct identity.
2. Ensure that progression systems, in-game stores, and gameplay mechanics are kept separate for both titles.
3. Address specific player feedback regarding the firing range, operator visibility, and the cluttered store interface.
Warzone has achieved its success as a unique battle royale experience, supported by a dedicated community. By tackling these issues, Activision can rebuild player trust and enable both Warzone and Black Ops 6 to flourish as independent games.
We encourage the Warzone community to sign this petition to highlight these concerns. Together, we can strive to uphold the integrity of Warzone and ensure it continues to be the game we cherish.
Thank you for your attention and consideration.
