Save Twelfth Night Theatre from Demolition and Preserve Community Culture

The issue

For years, the Twelfth Night Theatre in Bowen Hills, Brisbane, has been a beacon of community culture and a haven for people from all walks of life. I, too, have been enchanted by the stage productions – the musicals, dramas, children's shows – all available at an affordable ticket price. Not only is the theatre treasured for its captivating performances, but it's also recognised for another of its key roles in fostering mental health recovery and social integration. The Fantastixxx, a community of brilliant, resilient individuals who have been challenged with mental health and physical issues. have benefitted significantly from this role. Gail Wiltshire, the owner of the theatre, has been the Fantastixxx rock, welcoming all into the warmth of Twelfth Night Theatre for over two decades, bringing positive changes and hope into the lives of all its members, no matter what baggage we bring.

However, this haven is under threat. The Queensland State Government does not currently protect the Twelfth Night Theatre from demolition. This iconic structure serves not just as a theatre but as a sense of community for so many Queensland residents. Its potential demolition would rob us and future generations of a passionate, thriving, and healing performance space, impacting mental health recovery and local culture.

To continue to enjoy the magic of the Twelfth Night Theatre and maintain the positive strides made in mental health recovery for Fantastixxx members, we need urgent action from the Queensland State Government to preserve it as a Community Theatre under its control. Stand with us. Help us save our beloved Twelfth Night Theatre from demolition and ensure it remains a place dedicated to community culture, affordable performances, and a refuge for those recovering from mental health issues.
