**Petition to Save the Trees in Dehradun: A Call to Preserve Our Natural Heritage**
To: The Authorities Concerned
Subject: Urgent Request to Save Trees on the Route from Dilaram Chowk to the CM House
We, the undersigned residents of Dehradun, earnestly petition for the preservation of the trees lining the route from Dilaram Chowk to the CM House. This area, renowned for its lush canopy, is home to a significant number of retired and elderly citizens who enjoy morning and evening walks under the shade of these trees. Additionally, the area houses several schools, and students rely on the shade provided by these trees on their way to and from school.
The potential deforestation of this area would have a profound impact on the local community. Beyond the immediate discomfort and health concerns for residents and students, the broader implications of tree loss contribute significantly to global warming. Dehradun, known for its tranquil environment and verdant landscape, would lose much of its appeal and character if we allow this deforestation to proceed unchecked.
The development in the hills should differ fundamentally from that in the plains. Instead of creating concrete jungles in the name of development, we must allow the hills to breathe and maintain Dehradun’s temperature balance. Trees are the earth’s oxygen suppliers and are particularly vital in our sacred land of Rishis and Munis, Devbhoomi. The sanctity and purity of this region should remain untouched.
What legacy are we leaving for our future generations? The unchecked expansion of concrete jungles threatens to deprive our children of the natural beauty and ecological balance that we have enjoyed. The day is not far when, without these natural oxygen cylinders, another pandemic could hit us, and the earth would suffer immensely.
It is high time we stop cutting trees in the name of development and the creation of a so-called "smart city." By saving the trees, we also preserve the habitats of countless birds, thus maintaining ecological balance.
We urge you to take immediate action to halt the deforestation plans and protect the trees that are an integral part of Dehradun’s identity and environmental health.
Sincerely,
Nidhi Khali Dhyani
