Save Trafalgar House
The Issue
🏛️🏚️🏛️SAVE TRAFALGAR HOUSE🏛️🏚️🏛️
On Thursday evening, I attended the Executive Committee meeting of Pendle Borough Council to see the discussion around Trafalgar House, Nelson.
I spoke out in favour of keeping the historic building, all too often we have mourned the loss of beautiful buildings in our area.
Cllr Asjad Mahmood proposed a partial demolition of the building, keeping the most historic front part of the building and developing the cleared land into a car park.
Cllr David Whipp, seconded by Cllr Tom Whipp proposed a full demolition of the building and to replace the whole lot with a car park. Cllr D Whipp said “there are revenue implications of keeping a building”
Those revenue implications were not known, therefore extra data was requested before a decision be taken.
I am pleased a decision wasn’t made on the evening as this means the building remains, for the short term, at least!
The council are ploughing money into Nelson via the Town Deal and preserving our heritage should be front and centre of any spending in the town. A car park isn’t required when a new 150 space car park will be created when Pendle Rise is redeveloped.
If you object to this demolition please try and attend the next Exec meeting and object.
By signing this petition we are sending a message to Pendle Borough Council’s Executive Committee that we are against the demolition of Trafalgar House and want to see it brought back into use.
