Robert McGuin - Almondbury Ward Cllr Candidate & Bernard McGuin - Tolson Museum Update

Tolson Museum sit's in the Almondbury Ward. You may have heard a  Councillor for Almondbury Ward resigned less than 2 months into the role causing a By Election costing you the taxpayer £25,000  and an Election will take place on Thursday August 13th. In my opinion £25,000 would have been better spent towards saving Tolson Museum from closure.

I have campaigned with my Father EX Almondbury Ward Cllr Bernard McGuin for years to stop Tolson Museum from closure. The Election gives an opportunity for local residents to Elect a Councillor to represent Almondbury Ward who will champion in the local community and at Huddersfield Town Hall to stop the current plan of Tolson closing for good. We need someone who will be vocal for Almondbury Ward, Huddersfield, work with  local residents and the wider community to campaign to save Tolson Museum.

That is why I announced in the last update, after careful consideration that I will be putting myself forward as a Candidate for the Almondbury Ward By Election. Working with Bernard McGuin and local residents over the years I have the knowledge and experience to continue the fight to the very end to Save Tolson Museum.

Since my last update 6 day's ago 1,200 local residents have signed our petition and many local residents have viewed our Tolson Museum clip on social media. We are against Kirklees Council plans to close Tolson Museum. The Council after 10 years of Tolson Museum being earmarked for closure still have no future plans for the building and for the local community. Currently it seems under their plans when the building closes they will leave the building to wrack and ruin.  Kirklees Council closed Huddersfield Library and there idea is to have a Museum in the former Huddersfield Library.

Leigh Tolson gifted Ravensknowle Hall to Huddersfield over 100 years ago in memory of his 2 nephews, brothers Robert Tolson & James Tolson, who were killed in First World War.

The ever popular Monday activities at Tolson Museum has moved due to repair work needed, to the United Reform Church in Moldgreen. 

As a Friend of Tolson & Ravensknowle Museum member, I attended the 99th Ravensknowle Gala with Bernard McGuin and handed out  Gala programmes. Bernard & Linda also  chose the Gala King and Queen. Ravensknowle Gala is always well attended with roughly over 5,000 people attend the annual event and it was great to see Tolson Museum so busy.
