Save tigers

Save tigers
The Issue
Communities living around Karnataka’s forest regions, local farmers, frontline forest staff, and the state’s already vulnerable tiger population are all being hit by the current mishandling of human-wildlife conflict. With nearly 22 tigers captured in the last two months and four cubs dying soon after being taken to a rescue centre, both people and wildlife are suffering. Families near forest edges face growing fear and instability, while the animals that should be protected are being pushed into dangerous, stressful situations that too often end in death.
If this continues, Karnataka risks losing some of the last surviving tigers on Earth, along with the ecological balance they maintain. Unchecked encroachments into buffer zones, collapsing forest protections, and poor wildlife-handling practices will only increase conflict, endanger more lives, and further weaken conservation efforts. On the other hand, protecting forests, enforcing buffer-zone rules, improving rescue-centre standards, and adopting proven conflict-mitigation programs would create safer communities, healthier ecosystems, and a future where wildlife and people can coexist.
The deaths of four cubs in just days, combined with the sudden spike in tiger captures, show that the current approach is not working and cannot continue. Every delay means more animals put at risk, more families living in uncertainty, and more irreversible damage to Karnataka’s forests. Immediate action is essential to protect the state’s wildlife, restore trust in conservation systems, and prevent further tragedies that could have been avoided.
