Why this petition matters

The South Australian Government is prepared to invest $135 million to build a new regional Aquatic Centre for Adelaide's central and inner-northern suburbs. To build it, the Government is threatening to destroy dozens of trees in Denise Norton Park / Pardinyilla (Park 2).  In July 2022, more than 85% of people who responded to our survey urged the Government to choose a different site: such as a near-city suburb close to public transport, where NO trees would need to be sacrificed.

Suburbs such as Thebarton or Hindmarsh were suggested.  However the State Government has so far refused to listen, and is now threatening to kill dozens of trees to build its promised new Aquatic Centre.

The Premier says it could have been worse - on other Park Lands sites, even more trees might have been axed.  But the choice of site could have been, and should be so much better.

New infrastructure does not belong in your Open Green Public Adelaide Park Lands.

Sign this petition to urge Premier Peter Malinauskas to think again:  to save these trees and choose a better brownfield site, close to public transport, in a suburb that could benefit from rejuvenation.
