To protect readers and writers, we call for voluntary statements on books and related publications saying whether or not they were created by ChatGPT or other A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) device.

We’re not against such devices or apps themselves. They exist. Some individuals will use them. But we believe the consumer deserves to know if the book they purchase was written by an artificial entity.

One concern is that the market will soon be flooded by chatbot-generated products, which will make it much harder for readers to discover authentic new literature written by human beings. Proper labeling will make the task easier.

The best way to ensure integrity in publishing is through transparency. A statement placed at the front of each book, which addresses the book’s A.I. content, will aid this.
