Save the wolves and keep the ESA

Save the wolves and keep the ESA
The Issue
Wolves have always held a special place in my heart — their majestic presence and vital role in the ecosystem have fascinated me. But today, these magnificent creatures face a grave threat. The Federal proposal to delist wolves from the Endangered Species Act (ESA) puts their future at risk. We cannot allow this to happen.
The Endangered Species Act, enacted in 1973, has been a cornerstone of wildlife conservation in the United States, ensuring the protection of species that are on the brink of extinction. The gray wolf, once teetering on the edge of disappearance, has made a remarkable recovery under the ESA’s protections. However, this success story is fragile. Delisting wolves would dismantle the federal protections that have been crucial to their survival.
Statistics paint a clear picture: without federal protection, wolf populations face threats from hunting and habitat loss. In states where wolves were prematurely delisted, populations have plummeted. In Wyoming and Idaho, state management led to significant hunts, decimating numbers and destabilizing packs.
Wolves are not just a vital part of our natural heritage; they are essential in maintaining ecological balance. As top predators, they help control populations of deer and other ungulates, preventing overgrazing and allowing vegetation to flourish. This, in turn, supports countless other species, maintaining a healthy and biodiverse ecosystem.
Removing wolves from the ESA list undermines decades of conservation efforts and disrespects the tireless work of countless conservationists and scientists. We urge the federal government to maintain ESA protections for wolves and invest in strategies that promote coexistence between wolves and human communities.
This is a call to action for every person who loves wildlife and believes in the importance of biodiversity. Let us come together to ensure that wolves remain protected for generations to come. Please sign this petition to keep wolves on the ESA list and protect these incredible animals from further harm.
