Save the Wildlife of Canvey Lake: Start Full Restoration Works Now!
The Issue
Canvey Lake is in peril, and witnessing the daily, needless deaths of its wildlife is nothing short of heartbreaking. The dead fish, ducks, geese and now the entire swan family that have died, are a painful reminder that something needs to be done.
Immediate intervention is needed. We call upon the local government and environmental agencies to implement their plan now, we cannot afford to wait.
Save the Wildlife of Canvey Lake: Start Full Restoration Works Now!
Toxic blue-green algae and plummeting oxygen levels in Canvey Lake are killing our local wildfowl and fish. While the council has taken over the site and committed funding - the animals are dying today.
We demand that Castle Point Borough Council immediately fast-track the full ecological restoration, move the fish that are left, speak to volunteers to understand the silt depth, publish a concrete timeline for the promised dredging, and deploy immediate planting and emergency aeration to stop the ongoing wildlife crisis. Don't wait until winter; everything will be dead.
Please sign and share this petition to demand urgent action from our authorities to restore and protect Canvey Lake before it's too late.
We have a collective responsibility to safeguard Canvey Lake for future generations. This treasured natural asset deserves our protection, and together, we can ensure it continues to support wildlife and communities.
Canvey Lake is not just an overflow for the roads; it is a Local Nature Reserve that is home to diverse species of fish, birds, and other wildlife. It serves as an invaluable green space for our community, a place where families gather - we haven’t got many of these spaces left.
