The Issue

The Vancouver Whitecaps have been part of this city for 52 years. In the coming weeks, the provincial government will decide their fate, and ours.

The ask is simple: let the Whitecaps manage BC Place directly for up to five years, while the province and city work out the stadium's long-term future. This isn't a radical idea. It's the model that already works in Toronto, Portland, Nashville, and Austin, four MLS markets where the club manages a publicly-owned stadium instead of fighting with the entity that runs it. It works there. It can work here.

Right now, that entity is PavCo, a Crown corporation that has controlled BC Place for years, and whose grip on the building is reportedly the biggest obstacle standing between the Whitecaps and a future in this city. This is the same PavCo that installed new turf at BC Place this summer without even consulting the team that has to play on it, drawing criticism from Whitecaps players and coaching staff alike. If they can't get the turf right, why should they keep the keys?

If this decision goes the wrong way, here's the sentence that gets written: Vancouver lost the Whitecaps in the same year it hosted the World Cup. Not despite it. During it. That's not a legacy. That's an embarrassment, and it's avoidable.

This isn't just about a soccer team. It's about youth soccer programs across British Columbia that carry this club's name. It's about supporters who have shown up for half a century. It's about whether a Crown corporation's comfort matters more than a community's identity.

We're asking Premier Eby and Minister Kahlon for one thing: a transparent process and a real answer, not a decision made behind closed doors on a rushed timeline. Add your name and tell them Vancouver is watching.

Sign this petition to tell the Province of British Columbia: give the Whitecaps the chance to manage BC Place, and keep this team in Vancouver.
