The Issue

The wading pool at Burrard View Park has long been a cherished community amenity and a central gathering place for neighbourhood families. For generations, it has provided children with a safe, accessible space for water play during the summer months, while supporting social connection and community well-being.

We are deeply concerned that the Park Board has approved the removal of the wading pool without meaningful community consultation and without any plan to replace it with an equivalent water play feature. The current design includes only a single misting pole within the play area, which does not offer a comparable or sufficient alternative to a wading pool.

The removal of the pool would leave our neighbourhood without any local water play facility, requiring families to travel outside the area to access basic summer recreation. Water play is vital for children’s physical, social, and sensory development, and it contributes to the overall quality of life in our community.

Our minimum request: the wading pool should remain in place until an adequate water play replacement—such as a splash pad or similar facility—can be planned, funded, and incorporated. At minimum, residents must have the opportunity to participate in consultation to ensure that the replacement meets community needs.

By signing this petition, we ask the Park Board to recognize the importance of this amenity to our neighbourhood and take action to maintain Burrard View Park as a safe, inclusive, and family-friendly space for current and future generations.
