With only six weeks before the hearing of the church’s eviction case in the High Court in London, a donor to the Crowdjustice campaign has compared the dispute to David and Goliath.
The donor gave £100 to the cafe’s campaign for help with its legal costs and commented:
“This is truly David v Goliath with the mighty powers of the University church setting out to destroy David, the tiny but very popular Vaults cafe. The church and the vicar should be ashamed of themselves for casting themselves in such an unholy light. Let us pray that they get their just deserts.”
Many other donors and supporters of this petition have also made strong adverse comments about the action being taken by the church council led by the vicar, the Rev Will Lamb.
The cafe is a small local business which has grown to be very popular with locals, students and visitors alike over the last 20 years.
By comparison, the University church is a major institution with assets of £2 million and annual profits of £700,000 from the hundreds of people who climb the tower every year to get a view of Oxford.
None of us can understand why the church wishes to evict the cafe, spend £750,000 on redevelopment and run it themselves when they have been receiving rent of more than £100,000 a year from the existing business.
So please go to the Crowdjustice site if you have not done so already and donate as much as you can to help the cafe’s campaign to survive at this link:-

There is also a donation machine on the counter in the cafe where you can donate with a touch of your card.
And please circulate the Crowdjustice campaign to your friends on social media, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and X.
We thank you once again.
