SAVE THE USS HEMMINGER DE-746

SAVE THE USS HEMMINGER DE-746
The Issue
The Goal: To urge the USS Alabama Battleship Commission and the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok to preserve the USS Hemminger (DE-746) as a museum ship in the Gulf South.
The Description:
The USS Hemminger (DE-746) is a living piece of World War II history. She served in notable battles such as the battle okinawa and even participated in the search for the commander of the army air forces, Lt. Gen. Millard F. Harmon when his plane mysteriously over the ocean in 1945.
Recently decommissioned in Thailand (as the HTMS Pin Klao), it is one of only two surviving Cannon-class Destroyer Escorts in the world.
As the 'small boy' escorts that protected our carriers and convoys, these ships represent the grit and sacrifice of thousands of sailors. We believe the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is the perfect home for this vessel, completing a 'WWII Task Force' alongside the Battleship Alabama and Submarine Drum.
We, the undersigned, call on the Commission to:
Formally express interest to the Royal Thai Navy to pause any scrapping plans.
Utilize the available U.S. Embassy Freedom 250 Grant to conduct a preservation study.
Help us save this 'Lucky Ship' so future generations can walk her decks.
Don’t let the last of her kind become scrap metal. Bring the Hemminger Home."
