The Issue
Help Us Save the University of San Francisco Tennis Programs!
On April 5th, University of San Francisco Athletic Director, Larry Williams, and Vice President of Finance, Charlie Cross, announced their decision to discontinue the Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs due to financial challenges the school is facing.
We are asking USF to give us the chance to save our tennis programs at the University of San Francisco.
USF tennis is composed of passionate student athletes and coaches of many different nationalities, ethnicities, and cultures who have come together to share the common goal of achieving excellence both on and off the court.
The Men’s and Women’s tennis teams have strong community engagement in San Francisco through their collaboration with Harper for Kids and YTA (Youth Tennis Advantage) where players and coaches spend time inspiring and teaching children tennis and the importance of a positive attitude. Through the teams’ competition and practices held at the Goldman Tennis Center, California Tennis Club, and The Olympic Club, the tennis community is inspired by high-level tennis that enriches sports in San Francisco.
USF Tennis has a long history and future for success. The Men’s tennis program has won the NCAA championships. Both programs have made countless WCC appearances and have been home to a Women’s WCC singles winner. USF has been home to nationally ranked players in singles and doubles on both the Men’s and Women’s side.
Tennis has been a part of USF for more than 75 years, with a welcoming culture that has given opportunities to national and international students in academics, athletics, and career development. To lose a program that gives so much to its community would be a tragedy and a loss for west coast athletics.
We believe if USF will work with us, we will be able to save our programs. #SaveUSFTennis
