Save the trees of Woodgrange Cemetery
The Issue
Woodgrange Park Cemetery Management,
Please reconsider your plan to cut down all the trees located near the Queensberry Place Borderline which cover very gracefully the Commonwealth War Graves. We are deeply concerned about the impact that this action will have both on the environment and wildlife in the area and on the health and wellbeing of local residents.
We understand the felling of these trees is scheduled to take place during the first week of March 2023. We are asking you to work with local residents and community groups to come up with a plan which preserves and maintains the trees.
As you may know, trees play a crucial role in providing oxygen, reducing air pollution, and maintaining the ecological balance. They provide shade and enhance the aesthetics of the surrounding area and act as a natural barrier to noise and air pollution.
Newham is already seriously lacking in green spaces, with only 0.72 hectares per 1000 head of population.
The trees in this area are known to welcome wild birds such as the beautiful London green ring-necked parakeets. The proposed plan to cut down all the trees will not only deprive us of these protections against pollution but also harm the natural habitat of many local species.
Removing the trees would be a great loss to the local area and impact the health and wellbeing of the local residents.
