The fight to save the trees of Grant Park is not over. We need your help today! There are over 250 healthy trees in Grant Park planned for removal under current construction plans. We are expanding our efforts to save these trees and ask for your support in whatever way you can.
Here are six ways you can help now. Visit www.savethetreesgp.org to do the following:
1. SIGN UP for updates
2. GET a “Save the Trees of Grant Park” yard sign
3. DONATE to help cover legal expenses
4. Continue to SHARE this petition and the “Save the Trees of Grant Park” video
5. ATTEND City Council Member Carla Smith’s “Grant Park Gateway Project Public Meeting” on Saturday Oct 14, 11am at the Georgia-Hill Community Center and demand that she save the trees of Grant Park
6. JOIN weekday protests
As noted, over 250 healthy trees are slated for removal within Grant Park. Presentations given during the tree appeal hearings revealed the parking deck is part of broader project plans within Grant Park, resulting in the upward revision to the number of trees planned for removal.
While the Atlanta Tree Conservation Commission upheld our first tree appeal this summer, they denied the second one on Sept 27th. The Commission holds limited power to affect decisions made in earlier stages of the development process.
We have since hired an attorney with an outstanding record of supporting grassroots movements and filed a notice to appeal in Superior Court. We anticipate a potentially expensive and lengthy legal process, currently budgeted at $60,000.
Please help us cover these costs and donate through our gofundmepage or mail a check to:
