The issue
The Guild has recently been informed by the University that there will be a number of restrictions placed on the Tavern in relation to it's operating hours and its license.
The University has proposed the following to the Guild:
We are to cease the Tavern’s operating hours by 9pm every night
We are only permitted to host 6 large events per year with the capacity of 1500 students to be held inside the Tavern and adjacent courtyards. These events will include: 2 Mid Semester Bashes, 2 End of Semester Bashes, Easter Bash and Beach Bash.
When students attend these large events, they are required to sign in by providing their name, signature and student ID and are only permitted to bring ONE guest (a person who is not a student at Curtin University).
These restrictions would cause the discontinuation of the Wicked Wednesday BBQ’s and also Friday nights as hosted by the Tavern in 2013. These regular weekly events are extremely popular amongst students and in particular to those individuals living in student housing.
These restrictions also jeopardise the potential to hold any extra events that the future Guild Council could host in 2013.
