Save the streetlights on Ferndale Place

Save the streetlights on Ferndale Place
The Issue
The city of Waterloo is forcing the replacement of 6 historical light fixtures on Ferndale Place. The light posts were originally gas lamps warming the streets of Kitchener before they were moved and retrofitted to electrical on Ferndale Place in the 1960's.
The lights are a unique fixture in the city, that we believe deserve to be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Matt Wilson, who walked every street in Kitchener- Waterloo, made a point to list Ferndale as one of his favorite streets because of the lamp posts' charm.
The city also refuses to discuss the environmental impact tall cobra lights will have. Firstly on the large mature trees that adorn the street. Secondly and much more importantly the large and gross impact the new lights will have on Hillside Reserve. The section of hillside park that Ferndale place backs onto is the only part without excessive light bleeding, which allows local amphibious and bird wildlife to strive.
The lights as the city has proposed them go against provincial best practices, which many other municipalities abide by. One such city is Hamilton, who with the help of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, was able to maintain the quality of their local wildlife in similar projects. The city has access to these same resources but has refused to use them.
