Save the Southsea Seafront Zig Zags!

The Issue

Growing up on the South Coast, I have cherished countless nostalgic memories of the beautiful Southsea seafront. One iconic feature that has remained unchanged for decades is the zig zags that adorn this picturesque promenade. It is with great concern that I write this petition to rally support in preserving these zig zags, as they face an imminent threat of removal.

The zig zags have become an integral part of our community's identity and hold immense sentimental value to both locals and visitors alike. Generations of children and adults have joyfully run up  and down, creating lasting memories with family and friends. Removing them would be a disservice to our shared heritage and a loss for future generations who deserve to experience the same delight we once did.

While it is essential to prioritize safety measures such as installing sea defences, it should not come at the cost of erasing a cherished symbol from our seafront landscape. We firmly believe that there can be a harmonious coexistence between necessary infrastructure improvements and preserving our beloved zig zags.

To support this cause, we must present accurate facts about their historical significance:

1. Historical Heritage: The zig zags were constructed decades ago.
2. Tourism Boost: The preservation of these unique steps will continue attracting tourists who appreciate their charm while exploring our vibrant seaside community.
3. Emotional Connection: Countless residents share personal stories about growing up alongside these zig zags; they are woven into the fabric of our collective memory.

Let us come together as a community to ensure that future generations can experience the joy and nostalgia associated with these zig zags. Sign this petition today to urge local authorities to find a solution that allows for the installation of necessary sea defences while keeping intact the cherished zig zags on Southsea seafront.

Together, we can make a difference and preserve an essential part of our shared history!
